In my opinion it is totally worth it to upgrade your ticket. It opens your Disney World plans to endless options.

Park Hopper® Option

Come and go as you please through all four Walt Disney World Theme Parks and visit more than one theme park on the same day for each day of your ticket.

For instance, imagine you go to Hollywood Studios for the day. Hollywood studios has your least favorite options for Dinner, so you want to go to EPCOT for dinner, but wait you don’t have a park hopper so you can’t go to EPCOT. Now obviously, this isn’t a catastrophe since there are restaurants at the hotels and Disney Springs, but you can see how a hopper would come in handy.

Another scenario – Attending the rope drop at MK and spending the morning there.  Wait, EPCOT has extra hours tonight, we want to visit there for Illuminations.  Hop on over!

Another way I utilize the Park Hopper visiting a park in the morning, until about 2 or 3 when it gets super-hot in the summer.  I like to go back to the hotel, relax, nap, swim, whatever cools me down. Then I head off to a different park for the evening for dinner and a show. This method is great for keeping yourself rejuvenated.

Upgrading from Park Hopper to Park Hopper Plus is a minimal amount when you consider what you get in return.
